  • Workhouses website - lack of work and the inability to fend for yourself and your family at one time, possibly would have landed you in the workhouse. Compare today's life with those unfortunates from our villages who found themselves here in the Abingdon or Faringdon Workhouses.

  • Longworth Community website -  Longworth village on the web - sponsored by the Longworth Parish Council as a service to the local community

Houses and Museums

  • Kingston Bagpuize House -Kingston Bagpuize House is open to the public on selected days and for group visits, by appointment, throughout the year. The house and grounds are also available for wedding receptions private functions, corporate events and filming.
  • The National Virtual Museum - The 24 Hour Museum is the UK’s National Virtual Museum, updated daily with at least two new stories including arts and museum news as well as exhibition notices, reviews, features and trails.
  • Access to Archives - database contains catalogues describing archives held locally in England and Wales and dating from the eighth century to the present day.
  • National Monument Record - The NMR provides specialist advice and guidance to a range of users, which include other national heritage organisations, Local Authority Historic Environment Records (HERs) local and national thematic projects, researchers, students etc. – It is based in Swindon, so very near at hand for a visit.
  • Science Museum, Swindon - After several years of intensive work, the project to reconfigure the Science Museum Library & Archives across the two sites has been successful. The collections are now housed in better conditions than previously, and the newly-created and refurbished facilities are now open to researchers. The significant science and technology collections are based at Wroughton near Swindon
  • Etymology explanations of what our words meant and how they sounded 600 or 2,000 years ago.
  • Palaeography Reading old writing a tutorial - National Archives.
