Genealogy and Family History
Genealogy (from Greek: γενεα, genea, "family"; and λόγος, logos, "knowledge") is the study of the descents of families and persons from an ancestor or ancestors.
Genealogical research is a complex process that uses historical records to establish biological, genetic, or familial kinship.
Family history is, on the other hand, the biographical research into one's forebears with the objective of compiling a family history. Family History places family members in an historical, social, geographical and occupational background.
It is essential to achieve the correct identification of individuals and relationships. This is not always easy to do but it is always easy to note where in the history you are on slightly shaky ground.
Sadly in this internet age it is too easy to rely too heavily on online research and not be sufficiently interested to discover the primary sources* and study these.
